I bought the (#TheChicagoManualOfStyle #CMOS) The Chicago Manual of Style because I had three books to edit. The shiny blue 17th edition arrived in the mail, and I hastily opened it. The solution to my editing traumas lay here. But I yanked the book shut at once. It was too hard! Too big. So technical.
But the fighter I am, I promised to refer to it during editing because it contained everything under the sun—syntax guidelines, grammar tips, publishing tips, legal jargon (to my untrained mind) around copyrights—to name a few.
But the thick wealth of knowledge remained sealed and tucked away on my bookshelf.
As a challenge to myself, I have made a November 2019 resolution. The challenge is to study and blog my learning from it every Sunday night. I’m helping myself, of course, but I also hope to share and exchange notes with fellow writers.
