I always book hotels with complimentary breakfast. Good saving technique for families. First stop in the morning should be a visit to the historic Falls Park that contains the Queen Bee Mill, and the magnificent falls themselves. Sit there a bit or climb around the quart-site rocks, but do this before resuming your journey out of Sioux Falls.
Journey from Sioux Falls to Badlands is less than 4 hours. Remember to pick a sandwich from Subway, which is 2 hours away as the restaurants get fewer, towns smaller as you get closer to Badlands.
If you do not have annual pass, you will have the opportunity at Badlands to get the annual pass or enter for $15 bucks.
Back in ancient history this part of America was the SEA BED! At Badlands you will see the fossils, the mounds and the color formations caused as a result of being a sea bed. The small park with a few stops to take pictures, etc can be comfortably seen in about 1.5 hours.
End the day 2 in Rapid City, SD, a drive of another 50 mins.
